Animals Gone Wild
		  
Why is it shocking when a wild animal acts wild? It's what the name implies folks. It's their nature.

When you put a wild animal on display in a confined enclosure (a cage, if you will) you bet that animal is going to be pissed off. Ever notice how a caged animal (think zoo) may pace with suffering, agitation and/or boredom. (Heck, if i was innocently incarcerated, i'd be doing the same.) Some people may even taunt animals in cages because they have a false belief they are safe from harm. Uh, think again. Animals act instinctively. Wild animals can do wild things like escape from cages and kill people who taunt them.  They don't call a lawyer and file harassment charges. That's why i thank gosh (or St. Francis of Assisi) for people and organizations who care about the welfare of animals.

When a man goes hunting and murders an elephant, tiger or bear, we call it sport. When an elephant, tiger or bear kills a man, it's called overdue justice. That's how i see it anyway. Sport hunting depends if you are the hunter or the hunted. (Editor's note. i'm not a hunter (yet). Do clay pigeons count? If the hunted animal is well-populated, humanely killed and well-respected as both a food and spiritual source by a hunter with an ecological mind then two thumbs way up to you.) I advocate humanity, responsibility and safety in any sport, be it hunting, surfing and yes, especially underwater basketweaving.

I do not support senseless killings of populated animals such as bear for the sake of having done so. Some people will pay good money to shoot and kill a starving bear who stands to reach for honey in a fenced yard just because they can. In this case, i say let's level the playing field and arm this easy-targeted bear with an ak-47. Makes it more interesting eh? Yesterday's game hunters wiped out entire species of birds and animals for the pure egotistical and numerical pleasure of it. (A proud and prolific hunter, Sir Killed Alot of Species shot 320 dodo, 1249 condors, 493 pandas, 218 grizzly bears and over 518 tarpan in a few hours.) Today's big game over-hunters are not only continuing to kill towards extinction, but are also potentially creating a future society of wild animal man-killers where the scent of man triggers a violent rampage in the memory of all hunted animals. This will invariably affect future generations of animals so that it becomes impossible for such wild animals and non-hunting humans to peacefully coexist in natural environments. As a wild animal lover, who respectfully enjoys and appreciates the distant observation of animals in their own landscape, and who is considerably more proactive than the armchair nature enthusiast, i am concerned that people like myself may not be able to experience wild animals in the wild. This leads me to the question: can the utopia of a mutual wild kingdom exist for both man and animal?

Wild animals are meant to be wild not indiscriminate hunting targets heading towards extinction nor should they be domesticated for the entertainment industry. This is evidenced in non-natural, wild animal environments such as zoos, aquatic parks and circuses. If i was a bear who had to dress up in silly clothes and wave while a man hit me with a stick, i may bite his head off. Or if i was a tiger and a man liked to put his head in my mouth while hitting me with a stick, i may want to bite down now and then. Or if i was a circus elephant who wore a heavy chain around my ankle and had clowns swinging from my trunk while being hit with a stick, i'd probably want to rampage free, run around, lift a few cars in the parking lot and then spear someone with my tusk. Or if i was a killer whale who had to swim circles in a super tiny pool, then had to jump through hoops of fire with a human attached to my fin, i'd probably want to splash around and drag that person underwater by their hair. i wouldn't want somebody standing on the tip of my nose for a lousy morsel of frozen fish anyway. C'mon people, i don't care how much money trained wild animals make for humans, these wild animals deserve a better life; namely the natural environments to which they originally belong and humane/protective treatment by human beings.
